appropriate safety.
During the 1980s and 1990s paintball became more and more popular. Paintball
started out as a recreational sport for some. (It was originally quite
popular for fraternity members at colleges). However, it is now big
business and has become such a success that many big companies take
their employees to paintball facilities for corporate retreats.
Many people view paintball as an extremely dangerous, warlike game because
it involves the firing of weapons that are similar to guns. In fact,
one could argue that paintball is not more dangerous than many other
popular American sports. Paintball enthusiasts suggest that there are
more injured football players carried off the field than there are paintball
players brought to hospitals.
However, safety is key when it comes to the sport of paintball. If you
do not have the proper safety equipment and gear, you risk the chance
of injuring someone else or getting injured yourself. Safety equipment
can be purchased online or at a retail store. It is also usually available
for rent at a paintball facility. In fact, it is so important that few
paintball facilities will allow you to play without it.
One important piece of safety equipment is a paintball mask. A paintball
mask protects a person’s face and eyes. Without a paintball mask,
a person could have serious damage to his eyes if hit with a paintball.
Paintball masks are standard equipment at paintball facilities.
Paintball supplies and paintball equipment must meet certain safety
standards. For example, when it comes to masks it is not ok to wear
ski goggles or sun glasses or anything else in lieu of a proper paintball
mask. A paintball can be traveling at over 270 mph - if it hits your
face the paintball could injure you and also push whatever “protective
eyewear” you were wearing into your face as well.
Besides a good paintball mask, a player should also make sure that he
has a good paintball marker. (People tend to call paintball guns “paintball
markers” because it disassociates paintball from weapon carrying
sports.) Although a paintball marker is not a bullet shooting gun, it
can be dangerous. Therefore, it is important to have a barrel blocking
device for your paintball marker. A barrel blocking device keeps your
paintball marker from shooting while you are off the playing field.
Remember, the only safe place to shoot your paintball marker is on a
standard paintball field, when everyone has on all of their paintball
protective gear. Once off the field, you should use your barrel blocking
device.
Whether if you only play paintball once a year or once a week, make
sure that you play it safely and use safety equipment. A proper paintball
marker and a proper paintball mask are very important when it comes
to safety and having fun with your friends.
